On Richard Alexander's work
Richard Alexander is a self-taught
Chilean visual artist who finds a deep inspiration in utopian and dystopian
imaginaries about the future, fiction and monstrosity. His style materializes
in minimalist and clean projections of high conceptual complexity. His work
reveals a special attraction for cybernetics, astronomy, and gender studies.
This interest moves him to the creation of works crossed by cybernetic,
anthropomorphic and zoomorphic aesthetics that converge in the margins of
sexual desire and eroticism.
With a workshop in Santiago of
Chile, his work occasionally considers original mythological notes from
different parts of the world and raises harsh criticisms of the moral
contradictions of our time and the near future as the ethical problems of
technological advances.
Among his most recurrent works
is the design and manufacture of masks.
This work allows the user to acquire a fantastic and mysterious personality,
which in the words of the artist "allows to hide one's identity with the
possibility of adopting a new distinct identity"
